About the Event
In this workshop, Zach Elfers, a local plant whisperer and forest nursery owner, will join us at StellaLou Farm for a grafting workshop. Zach will give a presentation about the essentials of grafting, after which the group will identify wild saplings around the farm to be topworked. Hearty, but less desirable, pear, mulberry, and honey locust seedling trees (understocks) will be grafted with select cultivars from scions. Zach will demonstrate and guide participants in grafting more delicious, friendly, and productive cultivar species to the trees found around the farm.
Each participant can try grafting mulberry at StellaLou Farm under supervision. Then they will be given stock and scion wood to try grafting under the supervision of our guide.
Each participant will take home a grafted mulberry tree from the hands-on activity.
